ONE REASON WHY A RETAILING BUSINESS IS NOT A GOLDMINE

GodmineDistrBiz Readers, you are welcome to this New Year Resolution and best wishes in 2012 though a new year has been passed. I hope you enjoy Xmas and New Year? Thank God for that. But you may need to consider how you will go to make resolutions in this year. Maybe you need to review what you made mistakes in 2011 before going into a new year. You need to improve your business success in this New Year by learning how you can become a successful business distributor or business owner and make a success in business. May God help you in this year.

Though, I would like to share with you through this article. Past time in a year, 2011, I came across a question searched by one of my goldminedistrbiz readers under blog-stat alert. The question they asked is: Is a goldmine retailing business? As this, I went out shopping around the market outside and inside my community as a study and later I found out that this retailing business is not really a goldmine and it is not spinning-money.

Why? Because I saw that one food-retailer sold three different types of raw foods in six (6) such rice, brown beans, white beans, in high- human traffic at Araromi market, Nigeria, and it is in high demand because of people’ s stomach. An old proverb said, ‘A hungry man is an angry man’. And she knows it. Yet she was not well-patronized daily like a food distribution business. She sat there still hoping some of customers to come and buy from her while she slept unhappily, sadly, lonely and little worriedly for 15 hours a day daily.

I often saw her when I passed by her. I knew it because consumed buyers refused or did not want to buy something (in bulk) from small retailing businessmen because they know they enjoy profits from this business and or they know they sell at premium. That is why they refuse to seek premium by buying. They seek cheap by going out there to buy in bulk where they sell cheap through distribution selling business. That is why the retail business is not really goldmine especial big-retail businesses like Wal-mart, Foodco, Big Treat Plc, etc. Domestic consumed buyers like everything in a shop no matter what price is because it attracts their eyes.

I would to like to borrow a beautiful quote from a small businesswoman where she was interviewed about how successful she was in the SDE newspaper to put this article. Read this from Mrs Julius Arinze:
“Another one, although personal, is capital. If you have capital and you’re doing business you know, you will progress and things would move well for you; when they ask of this you have it, when they ask of that you have it. When you buy things in large quantities that one alone brings customers, because you don’t need to call people to come and buy what they don’t want to buy. When they look at your shop and they find out you have every thing you’ll be making it, even if you are selling things costly, they don’t mind since their beliefs and mentality is that once they see that this shop is filled up, they would think this person would be selling cheap, that one would give you more customers and you would be progressing in your business”.

You see, dear goldminedistrbiz readers. It is important that you need everything in your shop if you want to enjoy patronage daily for life even you are a small retailing-business owner. Why? Because as a test, I went out at another market, Apata road, Nigeria again where food-distribution businesswoman who sold raw foods at little retailing price. When I saw, I found that she was more patronized daily for 15 hours a day unstoppingly than other food competitors in the same market because she have everything in loads of packages as a major distributor instead of a retailer. She has then four (4) or more branches in different cities. She has many female employees including other load-carrying employees for her and his husband. They are so wealthy.

That is why distribution business is preferred to retail business. Though, I do not mean that you should yield or give up retailing business for distribution business. Do not try to be a distributor if you know you do not have a load of money to or if you know you are not sure you can’t settle debt on time you borrow for business.
You can start as a small retailer because it is good and it can make you good profit daily on average days, but make sure you have everything in your shop so that they think you sell cheap. And if you want to enjoy a goldmine from a retailing business daily, make sure you keep costs down. Customers like rather cheap or affordable prices than premium ones. You must go directly to a real major distributor and buy them in small bulk or parts fully.
